Humalog Mix KwikPen contain mixtures of Insulin Lispro along with a second form of insulin called Lispro protamine. Humalog is a medication used to treat both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Insulin Lispro protamine/Insulin Lispro is used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with diabetes. This product is a combination of two man-made insulins: intermediate-acting Insulin Lispro protamine and rapid-acting Insulin Lispro. This combination starts working faster and lasts for a longer time than regular insulin.

Insulin is a natural substance that allows the body to properly use sugar from the diet. It replaces the insulin that your body no longer produces, thereby lowering your blood sugar. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Humalog Mix KwikPen works in several ways to lower your blood sugar, including by: helping certain tissues in the body to store glucose in their cells, preventing the liver from producing more glucose, blocking breakdown of fats and proteins, helping to control the overall production and breakdown of sugar in the body.

You shouldn't take Humalog Mix KwikPen if: you're allergic to Humalog or any of its inactive ingredients or your blood sugar is currently very low. Also, it's never a good idea to share your insulin with another person. This includes sharing your Humalog KwikPen, or any insulin pens and insulin cartridges, regardless of whether you've changed needles.

Never mix Humalog Mix KwikPen with any other insulins, even if you're using a form of Humalog that comes automatically mixed.

You should stop using this medicine and call your doctor if you experience any of the following serious side effects: low blood sugar, low potassium levels in the blood, serious and/or life-threatening allergic reactions
