Lipicard works by increasing certain natural substances that break down fats in the blood and speed up the natural processes that remove cholesterol from the body. The active ingredient fenofibrate is considered a fibrates type of medication. Lipicard (Fenofibrate) should be used along with a proper exercise program, a balanced diet and other lifestyle changes to help increase the amount of “good” cholesterol or high density lipoprotein (HDL) and lower “bad” cholesterol or low density lipoprotein (LDL) in the blood. Monitoring cholesterol levels can help decrease the risk of heart attacks, strokes, angina (chest pain), heart disease and atherosclerosis (clogged arteries).

Lipicard should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually once daily. Lipicard should be taken with some food along with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the treatment. Lipicard should be taken whole and not crushed, split or broken before consuming. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor, even if you feel well, as high cholesterol usually has no visible symptoms. Lipicard may cause unwanted side effects such as: fatigue, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, back pain, stomach pain, headaches.

Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as: difficulty breathing or swallowing, Irregular heartbeat, chest pain, signs of infection, easy bruising or bleeding, muscle pain or weakness, jaundice.

Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes and hives.
